International PARK(ing) Day
Around the globe, people are celebrating the international PARK(ing) Day, an initiative to promote re-thinking of public space.
It was arranged for the first time in 2005 in a car park in San Francisco. Since then it has spread to a number of other cities across the world and always takes place on the 3rd Friday of September. The idea is to transform grey parking lots into livable and creative space for people.
The vast majority of outdoor urban space is dedicated to the private vehicle, while only a fraction of that land is allocated to open space for people.
