On July 6th 2018, children from two neighbourhoods in Zurich presented wishes and suggestions for their neighbourhoods to the city councillor Richard Wolff, head of the department of civil engineering and waste disposal of the city of Zurich. Before that, the kids had analysed their neighbourhoods and had looked for spots they liked and disliked. Based on the analysis, they had developed ideas on how to improve the negative spots.

For example, traffic was an issue that was discussed. To feel safer the children prefer to have broader bicycle lanes and a crosswalk on a highly frequented road. The children also wish that playgrounds are well maintained and in general that there is no waste on the streets and parks in the neighbourhood.

City councillor Richard Wolff discussed the improvement suggestions with the children. Over the summer months, his department will look at the wishes and suggestions and assess them as to what can be implemented. In autumn 2018 they will receive an answer which ideas will be implemented and followed up.
