International PARK(ing) Day

Fri 20.09.2019 00:00

Around the globe, people are celebrating the international PARK(ing) Day, an initiative to promote re-thinking of public space.

It was arranged for the first time in 2005 in a car park in San Francisco. Since then it has spread to a number of other cities across the world and always takes place on the 3rd Friday of September. The idea is to transform grey parking lots into livable and creative space for people.

Public parking space transformer in Graz 2019

A bicycle is as a matter of law the only way to an efficient use of public parking spaces - and the size of a bicycle is not restricted. In Graz (AT) this legal grey area is used to elegantly transform a parking space legally without permission. This is realized by simply parking one or two adapted cargo bikes. A space that is normally blocked by a car and therefore is unusable becomes a traffic-free and usable space for everyone.

The women's cycling course in Zurich ended last week. Last year the Metamorphosis project tried to organize a bicycle trip for families. It turned out that in this specific neighborhood not all parents ride bicycles. The course now enables mothers to take their children on bike trips. Let's ride then!

The Safe System approach is internationally considered to be best practice in road safety. In the European Road Safety Summer School we therefore advise you on how to successfully implement this strategy in your country or region.

International Youth Day

Global
Mon 12.08.2019 11:00

There are currently 1.8 billion young people between the ages of 10 and 24 in the world. This is the largest youth population ever. But 1 in 10 of the world’s children live in conflict zones and 24 million of them are out of school. Political instability, labour market challenges and limited space for political and civic participation have led to increasing isolation of youth in societies.
