How to get people out of their cars?

Brussels, Belgium
Thu 23.01.2020 09:00 to 13:30

UITP is organising a Conference on ‘How to get people out of their cars’ on 23 January from 9.00am to 1.30pm at the European Committee of the Regions in Brussels. The objective of the conference is to discuss solutions that can get citizens out of their cars to achieve a modal shift.

In Europe, the road transport sector is responsible for over half of all NOx emissions, and 72% of the EU’s 27% total GHG emissions attributable to transport. These emissions have serious consequences on the health of citizens, as 400,000 premature deaths per year are attributable to air pollution. Likewise, the predicted impacts of climate change are expected to increase mortality rates in the foreseeable future. The organisation of transport modes not only shapes and structures urban space, but it also impacts people’s living conditions, influencing their choices and lifestyles.
