By creating new corridors of cycling and walking networks across Southampton, (Whose conditions of short commuting distances, busy roads and flat topography, lend it to being a good candidate for active transport) Southampton City council hope to create a culture of walking and cycling, reducing social exclusion and improving air quality, health and fitness.  Projects will aim to engage children and parents from schools and colleges, using education to instil awareness and skill and build confidence to cycle and walk. They will also target people who have been unemployed long term, using this as a means to remove transport barriers to work.
